Theater

PROGRAM
The theater program at Westminster offers students the opportunity to experience all aspects of theatrical performance and production in the theoretical setting of the classroom and the practical arena of our department productions.

CLASSROOM
Classroom offerings consist of three levels of theater classes. All classes in the theater program are intentionally designed to get students up and on their feet and have them experience the art form. Introduction to Theater is the gateway class to all other courses in the theater program. It exposes students to a variety of ideas and disciplines within the art form. It is open to all students in all forms. Independent Study in Theater is an intensive elective that prepares advanced students to dive deep into a specific area of interest. The topics are many and varied, offering students the opportunity to gain depth as well as breadth.

PRODUCTIONS
Each year the theater program produces two productions in the state-of-the-art Werner Centennial Theater, one dramatic piece spanning the varied genres of Western theater and a musical production. During the spring term, one act plays offer students the opportunity to direct a one act play as part of an evening of short plays. In addition, students select songs and perform in a Cabaret. All of these productions offer many opportunities for student involvement and leadership as performers, stage managers, lighting technicians and set-builders.

Dramat Archives

The galleries of production photos to the right represent work undertaken by the Westminster dramatic association.  "Dramat,"  as the organization is known, produces two major productions each year - a play in the fall and a musical in the winter. The programs offers the students involved in the productions, and the entire school community, a wide range of styles and genre. The objective, over the course of a four year span, is for the community to experience a comedy, a dramatic piece, a classic play and a more contemporary offering. A wide range of musical styles, from campy 1920s shows to rock n' roll from the 1960s, is selected and typically performed by student and faculty musicians for the Dramat's musicals.

Working in the magnificent Werner Centennial Center for the Performing Arts, Dramat strives for the highest production values possible. Collaborating with professional scenic, lighting, costume and makeup designers Westminster's program exposes students to a very complete production experience.
